Anna Taut was born in Warsaw, Poland and lives and works in Berlin. Graduated with MA degree in painting from the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk and finished PhD studies in the same field in Warsaw’s Academy of Fine Arts in 2021. Works in different media like canvas painting, mural and drawing. Honored with multiply awards such as:  Grand Prix of the Ministry of Culture and National Inheritance in Poland,  prize in the triennial 25’ Festival of Polish Contemporary Art. Over years, her work has been exhibited in numerous as wll solo as group shows and she worked on variety of large-scale mural projects.

   Taut broaches the issue of human condition in relation to the surrounding reality by creating her art around extremes and diversities. The content of her paintings awakens feelings of intimacy and familiarity as much as distant confusion, drifting into the surreal. It appears to to the spectator like the spark of a memory, like flashbacks of a dream after awaking from a deep sleep. It is art on the one hand beautiful and magnetising and on the other oppressive and uncomfortable, which is filled, like the flashbacks of a dream after awakening from a deep sleep.

„(…)I’m talking about a person, his condition in relation with the surrounding world. I like to put him up against various spaces, forms, put him in different realtions, observe and react on the outcome. In a painted work I look for an emotion, a state which I don’t name, but consequently strive to its exposal. Painting should move, touch, impact. It’s all about emotions and subconsciousness in my case.”

,, I paint not to explain, but to get closer to what is inexpressible, to what lies deepest within us. I am interested in the human being and their condition in relation to the surrounding reality. For me, a painting is a reflection of the lived, experienced reality, which—much like the experience itself—communicates with me primarily on a sensual level, opening up and expanding the spectrum of meaning, rather than specifying or indicating, as language does. I engage with what is unnamed, hidden, primal, uncertain, yet constantly present. With the sensual experience of the world and sensual communication—undefinable, resistant to description, classification, or narration. I seek truth.”
